“Laghu Paniniyam”┬а is a brief introduction to classical Sanskrit grammar, on the lines of Panini. In this text the more important sutras of Ashtadhyayi are so arranged as to bring together the relevant sutras bearing on a particular topic. The author exaplainsin his preface, what motivated him to write this book – “it has always struck me, if it were possible to prepare an elementary grammar, in Sanskrit itself, on the basis of Panini’s unmatched aphorisms, simplifying his principles and interpreting them in accordance with modern tendencies so as to form an introduction to Panini, and to the ordinary classical literature generally, the attempt would be worth-making.”

The author, A R Rajaraja Varma (1863 -1918), is well known as Kerala Panini (the Panini of Kerala). He was given this title considering his contributions for systematising the grammar of Malayalam language.

This is a more readable copy of the same book than provided in the above link. The copy in the link provided in the page above is of poor resolution where most the visargas and anusvaras are missing.

Meanwhile, I used the Covid19 lockdown to type part of the book (Till sandhi prakaranam). I’m yet to proof-read it. If any of you can proof read the same and leave corrections as comments, will correct the same.

As you can guess, the good quality scan of laghupaniniya you pointed is a recent one and was not available at the time of this post in 2010. Now that Sanskrit community is aware of the vast collection of Sanskrit books at archive.org, it is not worth spending time in editing the download link. I believe this post has served its purpose.

Saw the typed text of LP. I hope you may be aware of Google OCR using which you could have done OCR of the book and then proof-read it. You may post a request at Samskrita Google group or similar groups in FB for getting volunteers to help in proof-reading.
