  1. Dear Sanskrit lovers,

The Kavyamala Series of books posted here were collected mostly from Digital Library of India. My since thanks to the scholars associated with http://sanskritdocuments.org/ and Sanskrit Google Group http://groups.google.com/group/samskrita who helped & guided in identifying and collecting the books of KM series. I am especially indebted to Shri Madhav Deshpande who kindly sent me 3 books of this series and to Ajit Gargeswari for helping me to identify the titles in KM series.

I appeal to the learned visitors of this blog to point out any error in the data collected and also to let me know if you have any of the missing volumes of this series.

  3. A wonderful goldmine. My thanks to you and everyone who helped.

It is great that the internet (and the efforts of great-hearted volunteers of course) is enabling these books to not disappear forever. Imagine: if every Sanskrit book and manuscript in every library got digitized…

    • Shuklaji, Adrian, Rajan & Ramu,

Thank you for your kind words of appreciation. I am glad that my humble efforts have turned out useful to Sanskrit lovers and scholars like you.

    • Harikrishnanji,

There is no such link. Either you have to download them one by one, or you may make use of a download manager like IDM, so that the files will be downloaded one by one automatically. I am not in a position to upload it once more.

  4. Dear Shankara, one can not describe the service Nirnayasagara press,Mumbai rendered to the Sam.skr.ta world. Actually Nirnayasagara was a Sam.skr.ta University, one may say. Its publications have alluring fonts, good binding, paper of high quality. Regarding the fonts, one must say, even in this computer era, the beauty of fonts seen in the editions of Nirnayasagara press can be seen nowhere else . What else to be done to attract people to study Sam.skr.ta? The dedicated scholars of this press had Shraddhaa in their work. They did not want publicity. They were of supreme level knowledge. Even though some of the works Nirnayasagar published, published afterwords elsewhere , the difference of quality in presentation is obvious. Personally I was very eager to have Nirnayasagar editions. It is great that you have uploaded these works from archieves. I think the scholars who edited the works for Nirnayasagara press are blessing you. Now I am proudly say that Nirnayasagara is very much alive.Availability of Sam.skr.ta works in good quantity encourages thousands of people to dive deep into the ocean of Sam.skr.ta studies. Definitely it will change the scenario in Sam.skr.ta departments of general universities and Sam.skr.ta Universities. Long live Nirnayasagara’s fame and name because of the websites like Sanskrit-e-books. I would like to say you million thanks for giving me an opportunity to bow humbly to the souls of scholars of 19th and 20th centuries. • Jagannathaji,

I am really glad that I can be of some service to Sanskrit lovers like you. Thank you for visiting again and for your informative and inspiring comment.

  5. A clarification. I was thinking that you have taken the works from archives. I did not know you are the original uploader of the works. Apologies.

    • Jagannathaji,

It is okay. The name of the contributor (sanskritebooks.wordpress.com) is given below the title in the archive.org page of Kavyamala series. You might not have seen it at first.

  6. Dear Sir,
you have done a great service not only to the lovers of Sanskrit (especially serious students of poetry and poetics like me)but also to the noble souls of Nirnaya saagar press. I fully endorse my esteemed scholar friend S.Jagannath’s words. He has beautifully expressed the heart felt feelings of people like me..Here is my token of appreciation to you ..pl accept.

      • Paras,

Thanks a lot for sharing this info with me. I downloaded it. I was searching for Chandi Satakam too. It is a bonus to me. In fact I am looking for Nirnaya Sagar Press (NSP) edition of Surya Sataka to add to Kavyamala collection. I cannot add Surya Sataka published by others to this series which was initially published by NSP. Please let me know if you come across it any time in future. Thanks again,

  9. Thanks a lot. I was thrilled to see the collection. So many unknown/not very well known authors ! very useful source for students like me.post kartaa sukhee bhava!

  10. Thank you very much for uploading these books. Do the anthologies contain the same books published as single books?
I am a student of Sanskrit. So are there any similar books with translation/commentary/notes?

    • Aravinda,

Kavyamala anthologies are minor works that were published together in a single volume. Please download any one part to see how it is. Regarding books with translation/commentary/notes, please let me know which book exactly are you looking for. I will try to help you.

      • Thanks. Sorry about the long delay. I was waiting for a reply for few days then couldn’t visit again until now. Well, I am not looking for a particular book. Any book with adequate supporting material will do. Professor Peter Scharf’s Ramopakhyana: The Story of Rama in the Mahabharata – A Sanskrit Independant-study Reader is the best I know – nothing comes closer- but it is not free of course!

          • Aravind,

This blog is for sharing Sanskrit ebooks which are in public domain. Please do not request for copyrighted books. If you are interested in purchasing Sanskrit books you may visit amazon.com or mlbd.com or search at worldcat site.

    regards
    santhanam nagarajan bangalore

    • Nagarajan,

Thanks for your kind words of appreciation about this blog. Digital Library of India has tens of thousands of old Sanskrit and Indological books. These books were scanned by them in their scanning centres at various public libraries and research institutes all over the country. I assume that would have covered the books at RKM Library too.

  14. Thanks a lot… after 2 hours of surfing and trying to find out surya satakam by mayura kavi… I managed to find it and download it by your guidance (the link provided). Thanks a lot for all the effort you have taken 🙂

  15. Mahodhay,
Efforts taken in uploading e-books is most welcome contribution to our Samskritham and my pranams to every one for their contribution in this regard.

Similar to the suggestions of Shri.Santhanam Nagarajan, there are many rare works in the form of palm leaves, still not brought to the purview of world.

One such is Sabdhartha Chinthamani lying as manuscript in Saraswathi Mahal Library, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Beauty of this work is that when read normally in upside down order of the palm leaf manuscript gives Ramayana. When read obverse like urudu from last till first leaf, it is Baghavatham. It is indeed unbelievable, conveys linguistic mastery of the author Chidambara Kavi as well the mind boggling versatility of Samskritham. Chidambara Kavi was the court poet during Tanjore Maratha King Shaji who ruled Tanjore during 1684 to 1712 AD, this work is sure to make one eager to at once go through it!! Priceless works like this have to be brought out to be published.

Can any body explore and expedite to bring out Sabdhartha Chinthamani, any other similar works available in Saraswathi Mahal Library and else where please?

  16. Thank you.
it is a great help to those love sanskrit
rare books have seen and i became surprised on your collection

  57. Hello,

Its so nice to see the work you have put in. There is a Shiva Stava written by Kashmiri poet Bilhana. I have the starting lyrics, wanted the entire Ninda Stuti; Will you be able to help me with that?

I am posting below the lyrics that are available with me:
” Santu sahasram devaaha tadguna doshoktibhi kimasmaakam
SIVA meva varnayaamha punarapi SIVAMEVA SIVAMEVA

Let there may be thousands of GODS. We are not interested with their
good and bad qualities. We are decided to praise only Lord SIVA and
    SIVA only

” Dhatte murdhni sudhaamayukha sakala slaagheye kapaala srajam
    vakshasyadri sutaa kuchaagaru rajassandre chitaabhsmacha
tadbaanaadi kavipraneeta lalita stotra prabandha priye
twatkarne labhataamayam mama giraam kumbhopi sambhaavanaam ”

Hey Lord! SIVA! You are wearing Chandra (chandra rekha) who is in a
habbit of showering lights associted with AMRUTA. In the same head
you are wearing bunch of skulls which indicates AMANGALA. Goddess
Lokamaata Parvati devi embraced you with the decoration of Kumkuma
(kesar) Agaru etc., on Her breast. Duly neglecting this very
memorable occation, you have decorated your chest with BHASMA of a
    dead body.
Hence it is clear that you are in the habbit of doing meaning-
less work. So I request you to do one more meaningless work. You
have already heard great poetry from Bana Mahakavi etc; prasing you.
    Now hear my poetry.

    Thanks,
    Payal
